April 2008 - Test web thumbnails
Tagosphere can currently copy data from Flickr Photo Pages only, i.e. photo data. For next year I plan to copy book related data, perhaps from Amazon. This would be a second site and a second type of web page to extract data from.
What’s with all the other web pages? Which data can be extracted from any web page? There are not many common attributes: a URL and a thumbnail of the document. For HTML web pages additionally a title and contained text.

I will test what can be saved from arbitrary web pages.

March 2008 - Tagosphere 0.7 and tagoSearch 0.7 released
The programs Tagosphere 0.7 and tagoSearch 0.7 have been released on SourceForge on March 1st (license GPL).
It is now possible to export the search results to another directory or to export and zip it.
Lower case tag search improved. This requires a changed database template. A new database is created automatically, when you open an old one.
Databases with the new structure have the ending '_0.70.fdb'.
February 2008 - Export files
Tagosphere stores all text data in an XML file and stores the photo separately. To show the XML file additional other files are required, e.g. a template file, a CSS file with formats and different files with icons. To copy all files to a memory stick or a different PC is difficult.
Release 0.7 will have an export dialog to copy all files into one directory, adjust file paths and optionally zip the files. The release is planned for end of February.
January 2008 - Tagosphere 0.6 and tagoSearch 0.6 released
The programs Tagosphere 0.6 and tagoSearch 0.6 have been released on SourceForge on Dec 23rd (license GPL).
tagoSearch searches for picx xml files saved from Tagosphere. The tags are loaded into a database where you can search and browse for tags. The search result looks like a web page including links to detail pages and links which start a new search. Going back to the prior search is possible with the history button.
All tags are stored and shown as Unicode. Tags with non Western European characters are displayed.
December 2007 - New programm 'tagoSearch' ready for Christmas
The new program will be called 'tagoSearch' - a search through the tagosphere - a search for tags.
The program will search for picx files saved by Tagosphere PC or will load metadata about photos directly into a database when Tagosphere and tagoSearch are running at the same time.
It's possible to search for tags and to browse from tag to tag.
The program will be available short before Christmas.
November 2007 - Development of tag search
I have now some photos and related metadata in my PC. The metadata .picx file 'picture xml' is an XML file which can be displayed in a web browser. What is missing is a program to search for the copied files.
Next step is a program to search for metadata, especially for tags. Browsing for tags should be possible like on a web page.

I have already used most of the required technologies for Bookpiles ( www.bookpiles.org ) another of my open source projects. This is: a local database, display of data on local HTML pages with an embedded browser, selection on tree or a web page starts a new query, HTTP, HTML, XML, CSS etc.
A first version will be available end of the year.
October 2007 - First public version: TagospherePC for Flickr 0.5
This is the first public version of Tagosphere PC.
The program loads photos and metadata from the Flickr Photo Page to your PC.
The photo data is stored in an XML file from which a local web page can be generated.

Required: Internet Explorer or Firefox

Tagosphere is Open Source and Freeware.
The Tagosphere homepage is www.tagosphere.org

I have a large number of photos on my PC where I don't know where I originally had them from. Even when I knew that they were from Flickr I couldn't find them again. Who made the photo, where and when? No chance to find out. With TagospherePC I can now copy the photo and the accompanied data.

I'm using Tagosphere for the last few months and hope that I have found and fixed most errors. Nevertheless this is the first public version; please tell me if you find an error.
